As we all scramble to get our taxes done this year, the scammers are busier than ever! Today, the IRS posted its annual list of the “Dirty Dozen” tax scams for 2017. The list highlights scams and fraudster activities for taxpayers to watch out for, as well as a few things not to do on your own tax return.  

This year’s list includes:

  1. Phishing
  2. Phone Scams
  3. Identify Theft
  4. Return Preparer Fraud
  5. Fake Charities
  6. Inflated Refund Claims
  7. Excessive Claims for Business Credits
  8. Falsely Padded Deductions
  9. Falsified Income to Claim Credits
  10. Abusive Tax Shelters
  11. Frivolous Tax Arguments
  12. Offshore Tax Avoidance
